We are a school family!
Every student is an important member of our school family! Our classroom is a safe place for all students. Bullying will NOT be tolerated to any degree. Every student will have a classroom job that makes them a valuable member or our classroom. Every student has strengths and weaknesses. We will allow strengths to stand out and work together to improve weaknesses in a respectful and uplifting manner. We will spend 180 days together, our time is meant to be productive and our classroom is designed for each student to reach their social and academic potential, which is the ABC School mission! It is expected that each student treat others fairly and with respect, it's important at this age that students learn to get along in the world with each member, not just their best buddy.
Class pledge
Each morning, before we start our day, we will recite the Pledge of Allegiance and our class pledge. It is expected that each child in the classroom follow the class pledge as we go through our day. This pledge serves as a reminder of classroom expectations.
Behavioral expectations
Behavior that reflects peace, love, and learning or being respectful, responsible, and ready to learn is expected in our classroom. It is expected that students have self-regulatory skills and know how to manage their behavior, emotions, and upset during academic or social challenges. It is expected that students follow all school and classroom rules, but first and foremost the Golden Rule: "Treat others how you want to be treated!" Students causing a disruption in the peace and learning of our classroom will have consequences at the teacher's discretion. Students may be removed from an activity, sit with teachers instead of friends at lunch or have time out at recess to think about their behavior, be asked to go to Mrs. Golden's room to complete assignments, be removed and taken to the office, and/or parents contacted. You will be notified of behavior that is more than typical and communication will be often if need be. Students not meeting behavioral expectations will not be allowed to attend the 5th grade trip.
Student Engagement
It is my goal for students to be engaged in learning as much as possible. Some things require traditional text book style learning, while others lend themselves more readily to game style, interactive learning. We will use Kagan strategies as much as possible to ensure that all students are engaged and interested in learning. Kagan strategies are small group and whole class activities that induce active engagement for all students in the classroom in fun, and easy to implement game style activities. These activities are designed to reinforce the academic concept while also implementing team building and class building activities. We are also implementing the use of Google Chromebooks in the classroom. We will be considered a 1:1 classroom, which means each student will have their own laptop to use at school. Students will access their text books, assignments, and other material in this way.
